Owen's Third ER Visit

Last night was a little scary with Owen. He wasn't feeling very well and slightly feverish. It was a little after 9 and so we thought maybe a bath might help him feel better. He was in the tub playing with the bubbles when he tipped over in the water. Eric thought for a second he was just playing and slipped but he didn't pop right up so he knew something was wrong so he pulled him out. He yelled for me and we laid him down on a towel in the hallway and started blowing on him to cool him off, knowing the seizure was from a fever. It lasted 20-30 seconds and it was super scary. After it stopped for a bit he started again with much bigger shakes that lasted about 10-15 seconds. Once he stopped and was breathing regularly we gave him some ibuprofen but then he threw up pretty quick. I texted Dr. Strasser and she told us we should probably take him to the ER. Owen was shivering and crying pretty good at this point. Our neighbor was able to come by and watch Conner and Emma while we were gone. Luckily, they were already in bed. We got Owen to take some ibuprofen before we got in the van, he was still crying but was starting to calm down as we drove.

He didn't like having his vitals checked but the ibuprofen was kicking in so he started acting better. Then he fell asleep in Eric's arms in the waiting room. When we went back to a room they hooked up monitors and we waited a while. He was super tired and kept wanting to take off the pulse oximeter on his toe. The doctor came in and we explained what happened and that this was the third or fourth time he has had a seizure. He said it wasn't a bad idea to have him looked at by neurology down at Primary's. He went and talked to them and took care of other patients while they just kept an eye on Owen's vitals. Eventually the doctor came back and told us neurology agreed to see him and we'd have to call on Monday to make an appointment. They thought there was no need for epileptic medicine or any workup to find if he had an infection because he was acting a lot better. They got us discharged and we went home. He acted kind of whiny at home so I spent the night with him in the living room, eventually putting him in bed at about 5:30 in the morning.

Sunday he felt a little warm so we gave him more ibuprofen and with that he acted fine all day and then took a decent nap in the afternoon.
