Hoover Dam and Lake Mead

This was Eric's weekend to decided what we do and he decided to go to the Hoover Dam. It was pretty amazing, all the work that was put into to to build it and everything else. Amazing. As we got closer to the dam there was so much traffic to get there. They had a security point so that slowed people down. It was kind of funny that the people who were leaving, there was no traffic at all but the people who were coming were pretty much stopped up.

This is a bridge that they are building across the Colorado River to make it easier to drive across instead of having to go across the dam and going on snakelike roads on the new roads it'll be pretty much straight across. Much faster. In the first picture it kind of looks like the power line tower is falling over, but it's not. There are a few of them like it on the side of the canyon.
One of the sites on the dam are these two angels and the sign explains it better than I do so I'll just let you read the sign. I also read somewhere that if you rub the toes of the angels that it's good luck, so we did. I didn't take a picture of it, the toes looked kind of gross, partly because they were toes and because a lot of other people have rubbed the toes.
Looking over the side of the dam there was this ledge that had a ton of coins that people either threw them there on purpose or they just didn't do a good enough throw to throw it in the river so it landed on the ledge instead.
The white line in this picture is where the water was when there was a flood a while back and the water got up to the spillway (or something like that) and if you look closely you can see a darker line at about the middle. That's where the water is supposed to be about 40ish-50ish feet, so the top of the white line is about 100ish feet. Super high.
In the middle of the dam is the state line between Nevada and Arizona. Me and Eric are in separate states!

The coppery looking building is the visitor's center. It looks kind of like a crystal growing out of the rock.
Finally these are pictures of the dam. It was huge!! About 726 feet high! Yeah I got a little nervous sometimes looking over the edge because I'm afraid of heights.
It was hard to get a picture of all of the dam because it was so big so instead I took a picture of a picture inside the visitor's center.

After we were done at the dam we decided to go to Lake Mead to just look around and see what it looks like. This is the part that we saw. It is pretty. We wanted to go swimming but we didn't think to bring our swimming stuff.
There was this place where you can have a cruise/tour around the lake on this paddle boat so we decided to go take a look at the prices (kind of expensive) and by the walkway to the place to check the prices there were a ton of fish (koi, carp, and unknowns). It was kind of funny because pretty much wherever you stopped or moved to they would follow you opening and shutting their mouths wanting to be fed. There was this huge gold one that was massive! The picture does not do it justice.
This one looked funny with it's mouth open waiting for food that it wasn't going to get from me.
