Pumpkin Carving Again

This past weekend at the institute they had a pumpkin carving date night. They had a ton of pumpkins there to choose from. Eric and I decided before we got there to do an easy pattern so we wouldn't be there forever. When we got there I cleaned it out and he carved it.

Cutting out the lid...

Tracing the pattern...

So this is kind of weird but our pumpkin had this super green stem that seemed almost a fake color that I have never seen before and I thought it was super cool.

Carving it out. I was going to try to get pictures of people coming around and looking at Eric carving the pumpkin but I didn't think of doing it until after he was done. It was kind of funny when people would come around, they'd be like "Oh that is so cool, etc." I'm pretty proud.

The finished product. It doesn't look as cool without a candle in it but it looks a lot better lit up.

We think we got hosed in the competition that we didn't know about. Everyone that was still there had their pumpkins judged. The Elders thought ours was pretty sweet and they kept looking at it. We heard them talking to the other judges, senior missionaries, and they said they really liked the pumpkin. When they announced the winners, a carving of Joseph Smith got 3rd, one of Brother Bradley (institute teacher) got 2nd, and one of a cat on a fence got 1st. They were good but I still think we got hosed and we figured that we couldn't really get better than Joseph Smith because that would be semi-sacrilegious. Oh well.

Seconhand Serenade

So Eric and I went to the Secondhand Serenade concert about two weeks ago. We weren't planning on going but earlier in the week I had won two tickets at bingo so of course we had to go. The concert was pretty good. The only bad thing was, was there was about a billion screaming girls in an enclosed space, so it amplified the sound even more. By the end of the concert me and Eric had headaches.
Here are our tickets and we are excited to go!

This is of the people setting up for Secondhand Serenade

The band, but mostly lead singer. It was kind of hard to get a good picture because it was dark and I had to hold the camera up to see anything so I couldn't see anything.

This was the funniest part of the whole night. When it came time to sing the song that every single girl knew and I guess everybody else, cell phones came flying out (kind of) instead of the "old school" lighters. This picture doesn't do it justice because there was a lot more cell phones lit up you just can't see them all in the picture.

This is of the football game the next day. I wish I could say it was close, but alas, like many of the football games, it was far from it.

Ward Party

Tonight was our ward party. We carved pumpkins and talked with the other people who came. It was pretty fun. After everyone was done carving pumpkins, they were judged and whoever won got a gift certificate to Texas Roadhouse. I didn't get to finish my pumpkin because it was too complicated but Eric finished his and he did a really good job on it. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Eric won!

First one

This past Wednesday was my first enrichment. I think it went pretty well. It was a back to school theme and at the beginning we had a little game were the girls had to ask each other different questions to try and get to know each other because there were a lot of new people in the ward. After the game we had cafeteria food (chicken roll-ups [super good], mashed potatoes, corn, pudding, and juice boxes), which was better than real cafeteria food and then a speaker, Sister Kirkham, who did an amazing job. After she spoke the girls sat around and talked. Overall I think it went good, I had fun, but I am glad it is over.

Bonfire

This current week is Homecoming week for ISU and this past Tuesday was the bonfire. We didn't get to see them light the fire or see the full affect of the fire because Eric had to go to a church meeting but we still went anyways. Even though we were a little late it still was pretty cool. There was a huge pile of coals and even though the fire had died down a little we couldn't get that close because it was super hot. I tried to get a picture of the blue fire but it didn't really work out to well otherwise it would have made a sweet picture.

Reunited at last!!

So this past Saturday Eric and I drove up to Victor to see my long lost best friend Sarah. We were best friends when we were little and then around first or second grade her family moved clear to Alaska. Well after she moved, we talked every once in a while, and occasionally we would write letters. As we grew older we lost touch :( Every once in a while I would hear news about her family. And then a few years ago I found out she got married, crazy! Well needless to say we finally got a hold of each other and decided we needed to finally see each other and catch up since a lot of things had happened since we last talked and saw each other (at least ten years!). Well we got there and we had so much fun meeting her husband Eric (good name) and seeing her family again. Her two girls were so darling! Hopefully, since they live so close it won't be so long before we talk or see each other.

A little early, but not by much

So a couple of weeks ago Eric and I were at Albertson's and as we were walking in I saw this sweeeet pumpkin so I had to have it. We wanted to carve them early because we thought it would be funny to have pumpkins in September but we didn't make it. However, this past Monday for FHE we decided to finally carve our pumpkins. We had our friends Brian and Amanda come over and carve pumpkins with us. We had pumpkin pie (not homemade because I didn't feel like it) and vanilla ice cream, Yummy! These pictures are just of us (moreso Eric) carving pumpkins.

The kind of finished product

My finished (kind of) product. It looks cool because I put flour in the holes to see them better

Working on it

My actual finished product. I was going to put that rose on there but it was after midnight when I finished the dragon and I was a bit too tired. I don't know why but I didn't take a picture of Eric's sweet pumpkin. I was of the Mortal Kombat dragon symbol, pretty cool. I'll try to get a picture up.
